"Outside" es el decimonoveno álbum de estudio de David Bowie y fue publicado el 25 de septiembre de 1995 por las discográficas Arista Records, BMG y RCA Records en Europa y Virgin Records para los Estados Unidos. Fue el álbum en el que Bowie y Brian Eno se reencontraron tras sus anteriores colaboraciones en la conocida como Trilogía de Berlín, durante la década de los setenta.

El álbum supuso el retorno de David Bowie al candelero musical tras unos trabajos anteriores muy irregulares. Un trabajo con mucho rock en sus temas y que fue promovido gracias a los sencillos "The Hearts Filthy Lesson", "Strangers When We Meet" y "Hallo Spaceboy" (remezclado por Pet Shop Boys).

Bowie y Eno visitaron a principios de 1994 el hospital psiquiátrico de Gugging, cerca de Viena. Allí entrevistaron y fotografiaron a varios pacientes que eran famosos por sus obras del denominado "arte Outsider" o "arte marginal", artistas que crecieron fuera de la escena académica. Algiunos de los temas están están inspirados en esas visitas al hospital, como la canción "I'm Deranged".

El álbum estaba basado en una historia corta escrita por David Bowie sobre un personaje ficticio, Nathan Adler, y obtuvo una excelente acogida en Estados Unidos y Reino Unido.
