Laundry Service es el álbum con el que Shakira comenzó a ganarse el mercado anglosajón. Publicado en noviembre de 2001, Laundry Service es el primer trabajo realizado en inglés por la cantante colombiana y con el que obtuvo el reconocimiento internacional. Shakira vendió más de 13 millones de copias de este álbum y obtuvo un Grammy latino. El álbum incluye nueve temas en inglés y cuatro en español y contó con la colaboración, entre otros, de Emilio Estefan, Lester Méndez, Gloria Estefan, Glen Ballard, Brendan Buckley, Tim Mitchell, Pablo Flores, Javier Garza y Luis F. Ochoa.
El primer sencillo del álbum era Whenever, Wherever, que consiguió el número uno en varios países. Igual éxito obtuvo su versión en español, Suerte, con la que obtuvo un MTV Video Music Award y cinco MTV latinos en 2002. Otros sencillos de Laundry service que obtuvieron gran éxito fueron Underneath Your Clothes y Objection.
