Blue Eyed Soul es el término empleado para referirse a la música soul interpretada por los blancos. También es el título de este duodécimo álbum de la banda británica de soul, R&B y pop Simply Red, que nos ofrecen diez nuevos temas cargados de soul, funky y rythm and blues tras un parón de cuatro años en las grabaciones desde su anterior trabajo, "Big Love" (2015).
"Blue Eyed Soul" ha sido producido por el británico Andy Wright, colaborador habitual de Simply Red y que también ha producido trabajos para otros artistas, como Simple Minds, Eurythmics, Annie Lennox, Natalie Imbruglia y Massive Attack, entre otros.
El vocalista de Simply Red, Mick Hucknall, ha definido el álbum como algo impactante. Según el cantante, no pretendía hacer algo oscuro ni un repaso a su carrera, sino simplemente pasárselo bien creando este estilo de música.
Grabado en los estudios British Grove Studios de Londres (propiedad de Mark Knopfler) nos presenta de inicio el tema "Thinking Of You", que fue presentado como adelanto del álbum, una canción compuesta por el propio Mick Hucknall y que nos obliga a movernos, envolviéndonos con unos ritmos al mejor estilo James Brown.
