4 es precisamente el título del cuarto álbum de Beyoncé Knowles. Además, el 4 es el día de su cumpleaños, del aniversario de su boda y representa un número importante en su vida. Por ello, cuando sometió a votación estre sus fans el título de su nuevo álbum, el 4 resultó ser el favorito para sus incondicionales.

El disco fue lanzado por Columbia Records el 24 de junio de 2011 y es el primero de la artista estadounidense después de alejarse de su padre y manager, Matthew Knowles. El primer sencillo del álbum es el titulado "Run the World (Girls)", que fue lanzado el 21 de abril de 2011. El álbum recupera las raíces soul de Beyoncé y la exquisita y cuidada producción respeta la voz de la cantante, quien camina sobre la música con su poderío habitual para demostrar que es la artista más completa del pop actual.
