"Pretties for You" es el primer álbum en la discografía de Alice Cooper, lanzado al mercado el 25 de junio de 1969 por Straight Records (el nuevo sello fundado por Frank Zappa) y producido por el propio Alice Cooper.
En este momento de su carrera, el nombre de Alice Cooper hacía referencia a la banda en la que el intérprete hacía las veces de vocalista y líder.
Este álbum debut de Alice Cooper estaba aún alejado del hard rock que posteriormente le haría famoso, presentando más parecido con la psicodelia, fruto de las influencias recibidas, entre ellas la de Syd Barrett, guitarrista de la banda Pink Floyd en su primera época, con la que Alice Cooper estuvo compartiendo escenario durante la gira estadounidense de la banda británica.
El álbum era una colección de temas sin sentida, la mayoría de ellos con duraciones fuera de lugar y cambios constantes que hacía que a nadie les gustara su estilo.
"Pretties for You" resultó ser un fiasco comercial y apenas tuvo repercusión. Sus temas nunca fueron incorporados al repertorio de Alice Cooper y sólo se produjo un sencillo, "Reflected", lanzado el 19 de mayo de 1969, con el mismo pobre resultado que el álbum.
La idea del álbum surgió una noche de 1968, tras un desastroso concierto de la Alice Cooper Band en Venice, Los Angeles. El mánager Shep Gordon se acercó a ellos para ofrecerles sus servicios, ya que veía cierto potencial en ellos. De esa manera, les propuso un encuentro con el músico y productor Frank Zappa, quien acababa de fundar un nuevo sello discográfico, Straight Records.
Tras un primer encuentro, en el que quedó claro que el productor buscaba las bandas más raras del universo musical, este decidió darles una oportunidad que ellos aprovecharon. Se presentaron en la casa de Zappa al día siguiente e interpretaron su por entonces escaso repertorio. Tras un rato escuchando, Zappa los detuvo y dijo: "Vale, vale. Voy a contratarlos, pero sólo porque no entiendo nada. No entiendo la música que hacen ni cómo pueden ser tan freaks".
Shep Gordon afirmó tiempo después que durante la grabación del álbum Zappa salió del estudio al poco de empezar, dejando a su hermano a cargo de los controles. Ese mismo día, tras regresar, les dijo a los miembros de Alice Cooper que el álbum ya estaba grabado, con una sola toma de los ensayos de la banda y con los temas a medio elaborar.
Con ese escaso trabajo de producción el álbum salió al mercado y pasó lo que tenía que pasar, y como ejemplo léase la crítica aparecida en la revista Rolling Stone: "un trabajo sin vida, espontaneidad, alegría, rabia o cualquier tipo de auténtica pasión o convicción". "La música de Alice Cooper es, en cualquier caso, totalmente prescindible".
