El 24 de enero de 2011 aparece publicado "21", el segundo álbum de Adele, la cantante británica que había triunfado anteriormente con su álbum debut "19". En Estados Unidos el álbum fue publicado el 22 de febrero de ese mismo año. Como en el anterior álbum, el título de la portada hace referencia a la edad de la cantante en el momento de la publicación del disco.

La crítica fue unánimemente positiva con el trabajo de Adele, con la calidad de su voz y las composiciones incluidas en el álbum.

"21" debutó como número uno en las listas británcias y también se aupó en el primer puesto en la mayoría de países europeos. En Estados Unidos repitió el mismo éxito, manteniéndose en el primer puesto de la lista Billboard 200 durante 24 semanas.

El primer sencillo extraído de "21" fue "Rolling in the Deep", seguido de "Someone Like You" y "Set Fire to the Rain".

El registro de ventas de este álbum supera los 30 millones de copias vendidas en todo el mundo, alcanzando records de vértigo para una artista en su segundo álbum. Por número de ventas, "21" ocupa el puesto 37 en la lista de discos más vendidos en la historia.

La cantante Adele recibió dos galardones en la gala de los Grammy del año 2012, como Mejor Álbum Del Año y Mejor Álbum Vocal.

En septiembre de 2014 la mismísima Aretha Franklin publicó una versión del tema de Adele "Rolling in the Deep", que fue incluida en su disco "Sings the Great Diva Classics".
